Video return

When a video is returned from loan in a carry out box, scan the bar code attached to the box - the box code, while in the normal sales screen. The Video return form is displayed automatically.

Open the box, and scan the bar code attached to the tape - the tape code. This eliminates the possibility that the wrong tape is in the box. Often, customers will return their own tape in the box, or if they have rented two tapes, they may mix them up. The box is then swapped for the display case, and the bar code on this is scanned. This action checks that the correct display case is put back on the shelf for future customer selection. While all of these checks can be made manually, it does require a level of dedication to detail that is sometimes lacking with staff.
Late videos are then charged for at the rate defined by the l or 'L' hotkey. If this is not paid for at the time of return, the charges will appear when the member tries to rent a further video. The charge will be shown on the sales screen preceded by the expression "LO:" for late but still out. If the customer has any unrelated fines for late videos that have not yet been paid, but have been returned, including the video that has just been returned, these will be shown preceded by the term "LR:" for late but returned.

If the fines are not paid at the time, delete them. They will appear again next time the member is identified.
If partial payment is accepted, delete items on the screen, or modify quantities until the correct amount is shown. Then pay this. Whatever is shown on the screen, paid fines are always allocated in historic order.

When returning more than one late video, all charges will be shown when entering the first. These should be paid before scanning in the remaining videos.
