Video rental

Videos can be entered as normal stock items, so that a video rental will appear on the sales screen. When the "Rental" department is selected on the "New product screen", this will modify the behaviour of the "New stock screen". After the OK Button is clicked, the Video details screen is shown.
Each video has five different numbers associated with it. First, each video will have a Library code. Existing libraries will probably have assigned these codes already. Then there will be the Stock code. In addition, there will be a Case code, the bar code on the display box, a Box code attached to the take home box, and a Tape code on the actual tape.
The Case code will generally be assigned by the manufacturer; if not, then assign a "1000 code" consisting of the number 1000 followed by the Library code. For convenience and clarity in the sort order, always make the Library code a four-digit number by pre-pending leading zeroes. For example, if the library code is 102, the Case code becomes 10000102. The Case code is the same code as the Product ID for products.
The stock code is V followed by the Library code. In the example, this is "V0102". When the new stock screen appears, a suggested code will already be filled in, to save time.
When both the product and stock records have been defined, the "Video details screen" appears, for the "Case code", "Box code" and "Tape code entered. Entries will already be displayed for acceptance. The "Case code" will be the "Product ID" already defined. The "Box code" will be the "Library code" preceded by 1002. The "Tape code" will be the "Library code" preceded by 1003. There should be no need to alter these assignments. Bar codes can be printed from this screen on Avery J8651 labels using the default printer. The program to recognise these codes on entry makes use of these numeric assignments.
One additional assignment has to be made. The hotkey l for lates is assigned to the charge for a late video for one day.
All videos entered on the system can be examined under the menu selection 'Videos |Videos |All by name' or 'Videos |Videos |All by number'. There are also options to list videos that are out on loan, or are late being returned. These screens can be printed on the default printer by clicking the Print button.

The videos will be displayed in a table in name or numerical order. Note that numbers are sorted alphabetically so that 1000 will precede 20. To avoid this, always enter the numbers with preceding zeroes. In the previous example, this would be 0020 instead of 20. The scroll bar can be manipulated to see lines, which are off the screen. There is an option to add notes to the Video details, accessed by right clicking the form, after selecting a video. This can be useful to make a note of complaints about tape quality
The process of renting out a video is, first, to scan the "Video membership card" to identify the member. If it is acceptable to rent videos without a membership card, scan the code '10010000' and the Members form is displayed. Choose the correct member with a left click of the mouse and then press Enter. The member number will then be entered into the system.
The video case is then scanned. The case is swapped for the carry out box, which is also scanned. This check ensures that the right video is issued to the customer.
See video return for the return procedure.
