In all locations where a product bar code is expected, entering three or more characters will bring up the Alpha Lookup screen. For this to work, the third character has to be an alphabetic character. The precise rule is that the 3rd character is a letter or space, 2nd character is a letter. The Alpha Lookup screen will show a list of matching product descriptions. Entering more characters can further restrict the search. It is not necessary to type in the starting characters of the first word, as the match is performed of each word in the product description. So typing bleach will result in a list including 'HS Bleach 1l', 'HS Thick Bleach 1l' and Domestos Bleach 1.5l'. If the search is for a numeric string - say we are looking for a product with a description that include 100ml, type a coln before the number. That is in this case, enter :100 - all product descriptions with 100 at the start of a word will appear. Products can be selected with the mouse or by using the up/down arrow keys, including Page Up/Page Down keys, followed by the enter key. The typed description will then be replaced by the product bar code. Each line of the display starts with the retail price. This allows for the correct selection of products with identical descriptions but different prices. The end of the line, after the product description, shows the number in stock. This is often the most convenient way of checking the current stockholding, from the sales screen; useful for answering customer requests. Pressing Escape will abort the lookup, afterwards. The product code (barcode) is also shown to distiguish similar products. After selecting a product with the mouse, right clicking with the mouse will reveal four options - 'Stock take', Price change, 'Product modify' and Shelf label. Clicking on one of these will take the operator straight to the appropriate screen or action. Pressing the F10 key will cause the printing of a shelf label for a selected product without using the mouse. [Previous] [Main] [Next] |
