The department table is modified by selecting the menu item Tables|Departments with the mouse.
The empty database is provided with a default department. Fresh departments can be added to suit a wide variety of stores by clicking 'New'. The department Temp A' should not be deleted, as it is the default for non-coded items. The departments Agency and Video have special significance, and should not be changed, but may be deleted if not required. The descriptive field may be changed if required. Use the New button to create a new department with a unique ID, and then save it by clicking the OK button. The margin is the retail margin used to calculate a wholesale price, prior to recording a genuine wholesale price.
Products within a department that is restricted can be identified by characters in the Restriction field. For age restricted products, enter the Restriction with the age such as "18" Two digits are allowed for the age, so if only one is required, make the second one a space. Another option is for pharmacy use. In the UK, some pharmacy products can only be sold with the pharmacists approval. These are indicated by the restriction " P". Restricted products will result in a request for pharmacist approval after a warning sound. Pressing the enter or y key is all that is required to continue with the sale. Pressing n for no will stop the sale of that item.
The third sort of restriction is 'Tracked' items, identified by the letter 'T' in the restriction field.
