Q. I have installed the program and it does not work. What do I need to check?
A. There must be an installed printer for the program to run.
Q. I’ve been using ProffittCenter in my shop and a friend of mine would like to do the same, but he doesn’t have an Internet connection. Can I burn him a copy onto a CD-ROM?
A. Of course, but he may want to get an Internet connection so that he can get the latest updates.
Q. I have three checkouts. Can I network them together with a back-office computer using ProffittCenter Solo edition?
A This is possible but can be tricky . See the
manual or help files.
Q. Is a free program ever going to be as good as a commercial offering?
A. It already is.
Q. I don't understand this about linking products.
A. Try looking at Explanation of Tables in ProffittCenter.pdf
Q. I have seen the source code files. What else do I need before I can modify the program.
A. You need a copy of Borland’s C++Builder 4 Professional.
Q. Can I run ProffittCenter on an old 486 I have lying around?
A. Probably, but it could be tediously slow at times. We do not recommend running it on anything less than a 250 MHz Pentium under Windows 95/98.
Q. I have an EPOS system but am not very happy with it. Can I use ProffittCenter instead?
A. The hardware may be suitable in part. Check out the cpu speed. Contact me for more help on this point.
Q. I have got the program running but do not know how to use it. Is there a manual I can read?
A. No. Just press F1 for help any time you are stuck and experiment until you are proficient.
Q. What are the improvements in the latest download?
A. Some minor distribution problems have been sorted out and additional help files added. A number of enhancements have been made to the sales screen, allowing easier refunds and deletions. See the help for details. Also, there is a training mode so that staff can become proficient without affecting sales and stock data. The latest version also has speech enhancements and video library system and can be used with the Euro and the Dollar.
Q. Is speech just a novelty?
A. We found it useful in eliminating errors. Try it - it is only an optional feature.
Q. Will the program run under XP?
A. Yes, with the latest download.
